The Basics:
I have been putting this off for too long now just because I hate writing “about me” blurbs. Someday this will probably be one of those 50 Things About Me pages (that’ll give me something to do when bored at work) but for now I’ll just list the basics. My name is Kate and I’m a twenty-year-old sociology/gender studies student at a medium sized public university in Illinois. I currently have two jobs – one as an office worker at the apartment building where i live and the other as a telecounselor. Basically there I make calls to prospective students and see how their college plans are coming while subtly conning them into coming to the school. Hopefully as time goes on, I’ll be able to document some of the weirder conversations. When I’m not at work or class I’m usually bumming around my apartment, riding my bike, reading (a lot), or occasionally enjoying some underage drinking activities. I’ve just celebrated two months without having cable or internet in my apartment, a feat that I never thought I’d pull off. (Okay so I now get free internet from work but I still haven’t had cable since April.)
Oh, and I’m also quite fond of parentheses as you will probably notice.
Other People:
I’ve decided to make this blog a little more private in terms of names and faces of other people in my life (especially the ones who don’t know I have a blog.. which would be the vast majority.) Here are some people that will probably show up more than once:
D. - D. is a now 23-year-old grad student at my school and has the largest personal library of anyone I’ve ever known, which is quite sexy in and of itself. We’ve known each other since March and dated for almost five months of that and are now in the process of being friends. (Which is awkward to write about since he finds his way over to this blog occasionally. Anyway.)
L.A. - my adorable sixteen-year-old sister. As many siblings do, we went from hating each other for most of our childhoods to being really close friends in recent years after I moved out of the house. I look up to her about as much as (if not more than) she looks up to me because of her sense of silliness as well as her ability to speak her mind better than I ever can.
Mahm – this is what L.A. and I call our mother… usually it’s yelled from one level in the house to the other, transforming the more pleasant sounding “mom” into a rather Bostonian take on the word. Mahm is (perhaps sadly) the person I called first when I got mistaken for 21 at the bar if that gives any insight to our close relationship.
Jenn – one of my best friends who lives about seven hours away and who I pretty much tell anything to. I’m quite certain that she will have her own clothing/jewelry line along with an art studio and a billion other things someday.
